How is breast reduction surgery performed? What is the purpose?
The aim of breast reduction surgery is to obtain smaller, more shaped and natural looking breasts that are more suitable for one’s body size. The height of the woman, the structure of the rib cage, the width of the shoulders, the condition of the skin and tissue of the breast, the degree of sagging, the state of the surrounding tissues, fat under the armpit are the factors determining the technique and duration of the surgery as well as the new shape of the breast. With this surgery, excess tissue and skin are removed from the appropriate parts of the breast and the nipple is taken to the place where it is calculated according to body measurements. While the nipple is taken up, various methods are used for the feeding of the nipple and areola, called nipple ring, and for maintaining sensory nerve connections. If there is an enlargement of the nipple ring, the ring is reduced to its ideal size of 4-4.5 cm.
